About Cultural Shocks and Being the Aliens.

Salam to all,

It's been about 5 days since we came back to Malaysia. We are still adjusting this new life as it seems that after 3 years, everything is quite alien to us. My kids are still struggling to adapt with the hot and humid climate. I myself can't denied that I'm adjusting myself TOO! dulu2 selalu kutuk2 mat saleh bila diaorg tak tahan panas. skrg bila diri sendiri rasa mcm mat saleh baru tahu. huhu Since my hubby is still in NZ, we are kind of waiting before we could really do things. However by today, I brought Fathini and Hafizah to view few kindergartens as Fathini has started to feel bored when she has to stay at home. We went to view 2 kindergartens nearby to where we stay. I received few cultural shocks and felt like the alien. WHY? Hmmm. Let's see:

  • the kindergarten fee is quite high.
  • the syllabus for pre-school children is so advanced nowadays.
  • there's one kindy that suggested to me to prepare to pay for after school sessions as Fathini might not be up to other 5-year-old level. mcm kelas tusyen tau utk budak2 tadika
  • Fathini is more fluent in English compared to BM, so we have no choice but to find a kindy that use English as their medium of instruction. kami dah ajar BM kat rumah tapi yelah mana nak sama dgn BM bhs buku kan. huhu
  • we feel like the aliens when we felt so left behind with what's happening around us and my kids asked me just now "Mama, what's 1Malaysia?".
Well, that's all that I can think of now. As I said before, I'm unable to be active in blogging like I used too at the moment because I have to wait until night time to borrow my SIL's laptop. Hopefully I'll be able to find the solution for this and resume as usual i.e. hopping to your blogs and read  your wonderful entries. Till then, just drop a comment or two here as usual. THANK YOU.

bab sekolah/pendidikan mmg jauh beza. kalau anak dah pernah belajar kat luar negara, ambil ms la sikit nak adapt

similar case (not the same, of course, since we are still in Malaysia)..

my wife n I converse in Kelantanese as purely (pekat) as possible at home, so that our dotter (s) don't lose a part of their heritage.. but.. whenever she speaks, keluar jugak ayat2 BM standard ala2 ayat kartun.. nevermind lah, as long as they won't have communication gap with their grandparents n realtives in Kelantan, I guess it's acceptable lah.. :)

anyway, good luck to u n Fathini..

hope u'll be strong in adjusting.

i have no idea on how much ur paying kat NZ dulu, but here in AU daycare & kindie fees are the bomb. mujo we all dapat childcare benefit from AU goverment, so lega skit we pay half aje. yet we do think it is still expensive than fees for kindie & Montessori in bangsar.

Mama Miya: Fathini and Hafizah used to attend a place called "playcentre". We only paid $30 per term (10 weeks) bcs it's fully subsidized by NZ gov. That's why I was a little bit shocked.
