Living in debts is okay as long as you can show-off?

Salam,

Picture this:
A very stylish young man just came out from his new sports car. Then, he went up to his penthouse to meet his wife. His wife, who was also quite fashionable, came down to the parking lot with him. They were about to go out to have a romantic dinner when some men stopped them at the parking lot. The men came from the bank where they owned some debts for the car and their penthouse. The men insisted to take back the car since the young man was way behind with his debts. He didn't pay for the car for more than 3 months.

All right. Now, does the scenario sounds like a scene from a Malay drama? How many of you have seen the real life scenario? Or have you ever heard this kind of stories from somebody?

I'm so against having too much debts at one time. I know sometimes we just can't help it like for the car loan and also the housing loan. However, if we have to borrow some money just because we have to show that we are quite rich and also because we don't want other people to look down on us, it's so wrong! Why don't we just live within our means? Do we need to listen to other people and put up with the "fake" lifestyle that we can't afford?

Right now, I'm so happy just to have a small car and insyallah we are in the process of purchasing our first house. (Well, we still need to ask for the housing loan but we have chosen something that we know we can still pay per month). Our previous intention of buying a bigger car has to be put off because we don't want to have to pay for so many debts unless we know we can afford to pay them.

Now, what say you? What's your personal opinion and do you have any experiences on this?

"Hidup sederhana" - that's our moto. Alhamdulillah & syukur dengan apa yg ada sekarang. Mmg teringin nak itu ini but if membebankan, why bother.

i hate cara org melayu kita yg "biar papa asalkan bergaya". nnt takut mati menyusahkan org gak. hutang sapa nak setelkan tu?

as for me, i prefer occasional indulge or reward. baru rasa special. time lain, just live within your means. with that, nnt ada savings skit. savings tu lah yg bleh guna utk those occasional stuff. so takde rs sesak nafas bila sampai hujung bulan kena byr bills or those monthly installments. ;)

kita tak tau kita hidup brapa lama, so baiklah hidup dalam aman. :D

My husband is a man against 'hutang'. The only hutang he has is housing loan but he financed it using the rental income. He bought a second hand car that he paid cash.

And he never wished anything branded or anything bigger or newer. Syukur dengan apa yang ada.

I think if you manage the loan properly, and pay the monthly commitment without fail, you can live with hutang.

Saya pulak jenis tak berani nak beli apa-apa hatta motosikal sekalipun sebab memikirkan income bulanan yang kontrak saja, dan hutang belajar yang berlambak.

Suami saya jenis tak takut berhutang, tapi memang terbeban la dengan hutang sebab..konsep hutang sekarang penuh dengan riba.

Banyak hutang memendekkan umur, kata sesetengah orang.

betull kan, realitinya ramai orang yg berbelanja di luar kemampuan, rasa macam terkena juga sebab dulu saya mula-mula dpt pegang duit tak beringat langsung..rasa seronok nak beli itu ini, tapi sekarang dah sedar and i really plan what and when to buy something..teringin banyak benda tapi tahan je...

kakyong dr dulu amalkan hidup sederhana.. menabung tu wajib.. kawan2 ade yg persenda, sbb kakyong beli rumah & tak beli kereta.. hakikanya masa tu, tak mampu nak ada ke2-2nya sekali.. lebih lagi dgn adik2 yg masih belajar, semua atas bahu kakyong masa tu..

la ni bila tak koje.. habis duit tabungan (mujur juga ade tabungan).. la ni tinggal nak bergadai pulak, tapi brg emas pun ade seutas dua ajer...

ntahlah, kakyong nampak ramai kawan2 kakyong yg hidup mewah begini.. hjg tahun berholiday ke luar negara, tp hutang belajar pun tak habis bayar.. ade yg hutang beli laptop msa study dulu, sampai la tak bayar, walhal tiap 2-3 bulan sekali dia g holiday oversea.. (tgk dlm FB dia..).. kakyong jamin dia masa dia beli lappy tu, la ni surat lawyer tu ade sampai kat rumah kakyong... huhuuu... bahaya betui jd penjamin ni...

yg kita ni jimat cermat, nak bayar loan rumah pun dah sangkut2... huhuuu...
